The aggregates vary by top size. The larger the largest stone the higher the macrotexture and the higher the skid resistance.

Type I is for any area that requires smooth pavement such as parking lots, playgrounds and runways.

Type II is for intermediate areas up to speeds of 50mph such as arterial roads, residential streets, bridge decks and taxiways.

Type III is for high speed roads and the surface has a skid resistance comparable to 14mm hotmixed asphalt surfacings. This is used for freeways, major highways and for rut filling.
