INVENTORY OF PRIVATE PAVEMENTS

Make an Inventory and have a Pavement Management System



Divide your Area into Rectangles: Measure areas




MEASURE:

  • Use a measuring wheel
  • Tape or other measuring device
  • Map out the area and give it an identification
  • Then list all features


    LIST:

    Drive Lanes
    A: 28 ft X 500 ft, 2 white arrows
    B: 19ft ft X 30 ft, 1 white arrow
    C: 19ft X100 ft, 1 arrow
    D: 28 ft X 330 ft, 3 arrows
    Parking Bays
    A: 500ftX 19ft, 51 stripes, 2 handicapped bays, 50 parking bays
    B: 200ft X 19 ft, 19 white lines, 20 parking bays
    C: 500 ft X 19 ft, 51 stripes handicapped bays, 50 parking bays
    D: 330ft X 19 ft, 32 lines, 33 parking bays


    INVENTORY:

    Total surface area: 418,470 ft2
    Total White Lines : 153
    Total Arrows: 7
    Total Handicapped Parking Bays : 4
    Total Parking Bays: 153


    IDENTIFY DISTRESSES AND MEASURE:

  • See other presentations on distress
  • Cracking is measured in feet or meters
  • Raveling in Square feet or m
  • Disintegration – potholes alligator cracking- is measured in are of defect plus 1 ft or 30cm either side.
  • Make a map of defects


    DEFECT MAP:



    ASSIGN SEVERITY AND MAKE A LIST:

  • Low, Medium or High as per self analysis guide
  • List all defects and use as a reference for deterioration or improvement after treatment.
  • Determine causes ( see drainage section and distress analysis).
  • Select Treatment to use. ( See pavement maintenance strategies section).
  • If in doubt call VSS for a free assessment and assistance in mapping defects.


    LIST AND TREATMENT EXAMPLE:

  • 150 ft cracks High Treatment: rout and fill.
  • 50 ft cracks Medium: rout and fill
  • 30 feet Cracks Low: skin patch
  • 200 ft2 of raveling high: skin patch
  • 200ft2 of alligator high: dig out
  • 25ft2 Potholes High : dig out
  • 50ft2 Potholes low: fill
  • 50ft2 of oil spills high: dig out
  • Overlay whole area with slurry seal latex modified.


    PRESERVATION:

  • Fix before it grows
  • Use treatmens such as slurry every 5-8 years to prevent cracking occurring
  • Ensure good drainage
