DESCRIPTION:

RoadChem™ 401® is a cationic 100% active emulsifier for the manufacture of asphalt emulsions. RoadChem™ 401 contains a special additive for emulsifying difficult asphalts, including parraffinic, high asphaltene and low penetration asphalts (40/60).


BENEFITS:

  • Excellent adhesion to most aggregate types including acidic and basic aggregates.
  • High binder content


PHYSICAL PROPERTIES:
Appearance: Soft amber paste (liquid above 40C)
Boiling Point: >250C
Pour Point (C): 25-30
Flash point (Closed Cup): (C) > 170
Specific gravity: 25C 0.841-0.85 kg/It
Storage life: Min 12 months in drums or bulk


APPLICATION:
RoadChem™ 401 â is designed specifically for CRS-1, CRS-2 and Very High Binder (80%) emulsions. It may also be used for mixing grade CMS.


TYPICAL FORMULATION:
All formulations should be tested in the laboratory before use.

Rapid Set: (by weight)
Asphalt: 60-70%
Soap (based on total emulsion:
RoadChem™ 401: 0.18-0.5%
Concentrated HCI (pure): to pH 1.8-2.8
Calcium Chloride: 0.1%
Kerosene: 0-2%
Water: to 100%

Mixing Grade:
Asphalt: 60-65%
Soap (based on total emulsion:
RoadChem™ 401®: 0.5-1.0%
Concentrated HCI (pure): to pH 2.5-3.5
Calcium Chloride: 0.1%
Kerosene: 3-12%
Water: to 100%


SAFETY:
Contains alkaline corrosive materials. Will cause eye and skin irritation if significant contact is made. Use goggles, gloves and protective clothing when handling. Refer to the MSDS for further information.
