DESCRIPTION:
RoadChem™ 701® is an aromatic extract of crude oil designed for use in softening aged asphalt, thus decreasing its viscosity and extending its service life. RoadChem™ 701® may also be emulsified using RoadChem™ 500® to create an easy to use rejuvenation emulsion for overspray and fog sealing. When used neat or in the emulsified form, RoadChem™ 701® will penetrate hot mix and seal coat surfaces, rejuvenating the asphalt, improving the adhesion and extending the life. RoadChem™ 701® is an aromatic extract of crude oil in the solvent refining process. It may also be used for compatibilisation of tyre rubber in asphalt. RoadChem™ 701® is also useful as an aid to emulsification for difficult bitumens.

Appearance: Dark coloured liquid
Flash point: >340F (>170C)
Specific gravity: 0.98@ 78F (25C)
Storage: Store in a cool dry place, do not let the temperature exceed 120F (50C). Use open drums first.
Storage life: 12 months minimum (if stored correctly).
Saturates: 30 max (wt%)
Asphalttenes: 1.0 max (wt%)
Compatibility: 0.5 min

APPLICATION:

HOT MIX ASPHALT:
For rejuvenation of Hot Mix Asphalt the residual binder must be extracted using Abson extraction. The RoadChem™ 701® is blended with the residual binder until the virgin asphalt viscosity is reached. This is typically between 0% and -20%.
RoadChem™ 701® may be added directly in the recycling train or injected into the pug mill or continuous mix plant. The recycling agent is to be used at the lowest possible temperature.

COLD MIX ASPHALT:
It is recommended that RoadChem™ 701® is emulsified to 30% solids content with RoadChem™ 500® as follows:
30% RoadChem™ 701®
1.5% RoadChem™ 500®
HCI to pH 2.5 -3.5
This emulsion may be mixed with Recycled Asphalt Pavement (RAP) to give the required softening of the residual binder. RoadChem™ 701® may also be prepared in a combined emulsion with asphalt, to a total solids content of 60%.

50% Asphalt 80/100
1. 5% RoadChem™ 500®
HCI to pH 2.5 -3.5
This emulsion may be used to mix either in a stationary plant with recycled mix or in a recycling train. It is essential that the binder content of all mixes be designed correctly using proper cold mix design procedures.

Asphalt Rubber Compatibilisation:
Add 2-5% by weight of the total blend. Blend with asphalt before addition if possible. Colloid mill, agitation or recirculation blending is acceptable.
Note laboratory experimentation is required to optimise properties.

Bitumen Emulsiability:
Add 0.5%-1.5% RoadChem™ 701® and circulate 30 minutes.
